Sims 2 babies can be excessively cute.

Changing their clothes can be difficult though.

Maxis seem to think babies wear nappies (diapers). And ONLY nappies. Well, my babies lived in a colder climate than most of the Sims, and they had to wear clothes over the nappies. Even in hospital, where it was very warm, they wore little vests or frocks as well as their nappy. The game defaults to a baby wearing only a nappy, until toddler stage.

In the Sims 2, you CAN change the babies' clothes - but you can only have one item of baby clothing which ALL your babies will wear, only one at a time.

There are three ways to do this.

You can change a skintone. If the parents both have a custom skin, and it has a Babygro or whatever outfit you want, painted onto the baby's skin, that is what he will wear. If only one parent has the skin, the baby may still appear in the default. This isn't very satisfactory as he will still wear the custom skin in the bath. And you can only be sure he will have the special outfit if both his parents have the "right" custom skintone.
You can replace the default mesh for baby clothing.
For a while I had my babies set to wear no (visible) nappy, so if their skintone doesn't have clothing, they appear naked. Since many proud RL parents cherish pictures of their little ones in their "birthday suits", this seems an acceptable option to me. http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=108937 has Sknydpr's mesh for this.
You can use a different mesh which replaces the ingame diaper mesh. This seems the best option  to me. There are meshes and outfits on http://www.insimenator.net/ for this, mostly made by Bloom. Remember before you go off on a downloading spree, you can only have one baby outfit (mesh and texture) in your game at a time! The babies will wear this one outfit all the time except in their bath. This is pretty credible, remembering all those years ago when my youngest son was very small and his sister used to refer to his clothes (Babygro ™) or all-in-ones as "Gro-Bags" (in UK these are bags of specially prepared compost for growing tomatoes in....). Except if you wanted to dress baby up for a special outing or occasion, going to see Granny, a christening etc. But we can't have everything...
