The Good Genes Challenge VIII from Garden Of Shadows

The de Ville Photo Album

The house in winter. Neighbours don't like it because it's completely different from the local style, this being Verona... they also feel it is poor taste to put the showers in front of windows. Ragnarok wanted to build to last, hence the metal plates the house is covered with. Also, fireproof!

More fireproof tiles in the kitchen. Just in case. They have several fireplaces, as Ragnarok comes from a much hotter climate. So far they have had no fireplace fires.

Studying.

Time to go back to work for Mum. She earns significantly more so HE gets to stay home with the baby.

Asharok, Ragina's little brother, looks a lot like his father.

Ragina moved away. She had a teeth issue that had to be resolved by plastic surgery. So she moved out to live in a nearby town where she can get treatment.

Well, it was time to start thinking about the next generation.

They decided to buy a piece of empty land close to the house, so that they could make a separate apartment for the oldies. As well as the garage. Something with no stairs, but a lift, as April's joints were not doing so well; a lifetime in the military as well as two pregnancies can do that. She was actually beginning to think about taking early retirement: after all, she had two grown-up children. But somehow she was pregnant again! Ragnarok found this hilarious.

Asharok wanted to work in the Police force, but hadn't found the right opportunity yet. Nor had he found his soulmate yet. But he bought a computer and signed up for a dating agency, and was offered a few prospects.

His mother. the General, acted as chaperone.

"With all this discussion about Asharok finding himself a wife, I thought it was time we got married. So, General, and Conqueror of my heart, will you marry me?"

Asharok's next date was with Shelby Barrett, a townie. This time Asharok chose to go to Verona market, leaving his somewhat queasy mother at home, and took his flashy new car, to show it off.

She wasn't impressed by his car. And she didn't like standing in the road flirting.

But he was nothing if not persistent. He pursued her all around the lot. In front of the dartboards might not have been the best place.

Finally she just walked away.

Not one to waste an opportunity, he chatted up Christa Shaw instead. "You have a dress just like my mother's!" Christy thanked him prettily, excused herself, and left.

He spotted Meadow Pedersen and Kendra McArthy playing chess.

As their game finished, he introduced himself and asked whether either of them would like to play chess with him.

Kendra offered him a job in the Political Career. He turned her down. "I don't care how much I could make as a politician, I really want to be Captain Hero!"

They decided he would routinely do the family's shopping, as he hadn't yet found a job, and he MIGHT meet someone nice at the store...

He did meet Carla McCullough, Christy Toyonaga, and Kendra again another day.

"I think I've found Her, Mom."

So which one is it?

"Kendra!"

But then he had another date with Trista Shaw, and she totally took the lead.

Trista was working as a Hostess and loved cooking. And she had a dress like his mother's.

She passed Mum's inspection.

The General was definitely pregnant again. She planned to take early retirement and stay home with the new baby, and complete her novel, which she hoped would be a best-seller.

The older couple moved into their house, and not so long thereafter, along came Cruella. April did complete her novel.

Sadly, it wasn't the success she had hoped for.

Ragnarok was by now working as a Personal Injury Attorney. And there still was no police recruitment.

Cruella's favourite occupation was to talk while her Papa read to her.

Asharok, still unable after most of his life to land a job in the Police Force, provided for his family by making toy robots. Trista was soon pregnant.

Trista had twins, Romulus and Remus.

The twins DID behave as twins, doing things in unison, and though their skin colours differed, little else did. I think Remus is the nicest looking of the children so far.

Definitely fangs.

"No, Nanna, I do NOT want to sit and draw quietly with the boys while you have your nap."

The boys grew into their family looks. Romulus here, for some reason looking hobbit-like.

And Remus. Cruella also had dental issues, and moved in with her much older sister in the next town.

Ash had an unexpected flair for repairing things. Even computers. (With 1 Mechanical point!)

April and Ragnarok moved out, to leave more room for the younglings.

Romulus and Remus both got jobs as Noobs in the Gamer career.

Gaming runs in the blood of this family.

Trista and Asharok, also looking older, moved out too.

Romulus was subject to a terrifying robbery. This made him more determined than ever to join the police force.

Romulus was fired on his first day from the Gamer career, but he was immediately offered a place at the Police Academy. he would fulfil his father's lifetime ambition! Remus, meanwhile, was promoted to Button Masher.

Now they both had jobs, it was time to look for some feminine company.

They went out for an evening of hunting.

Remus met one Pamela Landry, a lovely, dark-skinned girl with striking blonde hair.

"You have the same style of dress as my mother wears!" He even used the same line as his father had used, much to the delight of Ragina, shopping nearby.

Romulus arranged to meet his latest crush, Gretchen Stompel, at Games of Glory. She stood him up! How dare she! But his father and brother were there. He played billiards with his father and then hung around gossiping with his friends.

Gretchen did turn up later but his "friend" seemed to want to monopolise her.

"Excuse me, I WAS trying to talk to Gretchen."

Remus was promoted to Trash Talker.

Pamela married Remus.

And Romulus's good friend, Calista Fuchs, moved in. After he had fixed his computer, which she somehow punched through.

Unfortunately it soon became clear that Calista and Remus were strongly attracted to one another.

So the now heavily pregnant Pamela moved into Romulus' part of the house, and Callista into the larger house with Remus. They all muddled along surprisingly well this way.

"I just have to take Callista to her cooking contest, won't be long!"

"Don't be, I think I'm going into labour..."

Callista won, of course. The judges ate all her food before deciding.

And Remus got home and went into shock.

"Yes, I'm afraid that is your Daddy. The gorilla."

"Twins!"

"Not that surprising really, since you yourself are a twin!"

"Twin BABIES!"

"Yes, dear. Don't forget to breathe."

Here they are: Wayland and Sheila.
