Extra Neighbourhoods

To make extra Neighbourhoods for your Sims 1 game.

• Look in your Sims 1 folders for a folder called TemplateUserData. The default location is C:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims\TemplateUserData.
• Right click that folder and copy.
• Paste it into the same place. It will appear as Copy of TemplateUserData.
• Right click it and rename it to UserData9.
• Repeat, adding 1 to each UserData number till you have enough Hoods.

Neighbourhood Screens (backgrounds) for Unleashed

The original Neighbourhood Screens are in a FAR file. But if you make a folder that has the new neighbourhood background which is named the same as the original, and put it in the same UIGraphics folder as the FAR, it will override and be used instead. There is no need to remove the FAR. This is ONLY the background and will not affect the houses or lots.

The files are case-sensitive and MUST be named exactly as the files inside the FAR. Including the folder name. I have explained further below.

• To install
  • Make sure you have the appropriate neighbourhood screen for your game - ie pre-Unleashed or post-Unleashed.
  • You need to locate or make a folder called "Community" inside \Program Files\Maxis\The Sims\UIGraphics. 
  • Install the files there. The main file should be renamed to NScreen_unleashed_nonus.bmp if you are outside the US, or NScreen_unleashed.bmp
  • Vacation Island screens - locate or make a folder called VIsland inside \Program Files\Maxis\The Sims\UIGraphics. 
  • Downtown screens - locate or make a folder called Downtown in the same place.
  • If there is one, put the "CreditBtn.bmp" in the "Nbhd" folder (This is the little lighthouse that will appear on the Island at the entrance of the river)
    
• One background will change ALL the neighbourhoods (eg 1 to 9) in your game.
  • If you want to use different backgrounds for different themes you'll have to set up a whole new "game" folder for each one. But in this way you could have, say a winter game, a mediaeval game, a scifi game... with appropriate downloads this would make for good theme play.

Which Houses will fit in which Lots?

Patty was kind enough to make a list, posted at and which I reproduce here for convenience.

For instance, houses made for Lot 1 can also be placed on Lot 5, 53, and 57. To do this, rename the house file, for example from House05 to House53.

Notice that if it is a Community Lot you may need to rezone BEFORE placing the house.
